Gibson 2019 SJ-200 Standard - Vintage Sunburst

The Gibson J-200 was first established in 1937 and has remained an unparalleled model in the world of acoustic guitars. The 2016 version of the J-200 revisits its traditional roots and emulates the original, well-known shape, however it has also undergone quite a revamp to bring it up to date for the modern guitar player. The J-200 has received the well-deserved nickname of “King of the Flat-Tops” and it has an extensive dynamic range assisted by its super Jumbo profile.

SUPER JUMBO BODY

The J-200 is shaped to a super Jumbo body profile with a soundboard constructed with “AAA” grade solid Sitka Spruce which allows the sounds to resonate openly, truly befitting of a genuine Gibson Jumbo acoustic guitar. It is also a well-known fact that Solid Spruce tonewood ages brilliantly, so the J-200 will sound better the more you play it.

The back and sides of the J-200 are made with Flamed Maple which, combined with a solid Sitka Spruce body top, generates a crisp and eloquent sound. Furthermore, the use of maple in the back and sides gives the J-200 a powerful energy and volume with every note. This model has been treated to radiused, scalloped bracing inside the body which enhances the guitar’s ability to reverberate.

Joining the beautiful body is a 2-piece maple neck with a rounded profile which is attached by means of a compound dovetail joint. The combination of the dovetail joint with the tonewoods enhances the overall distribution of sonority through the guitar. To finish the neck is a rosewood fingerboard adorned with Mother of Pearl Crown inlays and softened edges. The fingerboard is polished with finishing oil to enhance the natural compounds of the wood. Gibson have consulted the use of German Plek technology for a fully enhanced playing experience.

L.R. BAGGS ANTHEM PICKUP

The J-200 is fitted with the upgraded L.R. Baggs Anthem pickup which is the perfect electrical component to ensure your guitar always has that “studio feel” quality whenever you play or perform. The Anthem pickup mounts to the underside of the bridge plate and does a great job of suppressing any feedback.

HARDWARE AND FINISH

The J-200 features a new, engraved truss rod cover, and fitted to the headstock are six Gold Grover Rotomatic tuning keys with a 14:1 gear ratio. The rosewood bridge has a moustache design with a Tusq saddle.

The high gloss body finish is achieved by the use of a finer grit sandpaper and the top is decorated with a protective tortoiseshell pickguard with flowers and dots beneath the soundhole.

The new 2016 J-200 absolutely retains all of the legendary status of its original counterpart with some modern acquisitions to boot. Gibson have also added in a hardshell case and owner’s manual to complete the package for all-round satisfaction.
