Gibson Memphis 2016 1963 ES-335TD - Sixties Cherry

Although the ES-335 kicked off with the "dot neck" in 1958, many players have always preferred the "block neck" version of the early '60s. The beautifully re-created 1963 ES-335TD includes the correct body shape with narrower horns and rolled fingerboard binding for a soft playing feel.

Product Description

Gibson Memphis 2016 1963 ES-335TD - Sixties Cherry

Although the original ES-335 featured dot inlays in the early 60's Gibson made a few tweaks including changing to these small block inlays. This model brings back those block inlays in a guitar that is as close to an original '63 as you can get.

'63 Shape

The inlays were not the only thing they changed in the early 60's. No they actually took the time to very slightly change the body as well. The biggest change was with the cutaway horns which are now a fair bit narrower than previous models. No one is quite sure why they originally made this change but it is fantastic to see it back on a vintage style guitar like this.

Vintage Build

The body has been made out of a three ply Maple/Poplar/Maple this is a material that Gibson started using early on in the ES-335s life. The Maple is the main tone wood giving the guitar a bright sound and tight attack while the poplar is there for structural integrity. No matter if you buy a modern or vintage ES line guitar there is a good chance it will be made out of this wood selection.

MHS Humbuckers

Gibson USA have the Burstbucker, Gibson Memphis have the MHS humbuckers. They made these pickups by taking classic 50's and 60's humbucker pickups from ES models and measuring every possible aspect. These are then remade using modern machines to get perfect accuracy making these some of the best PAF style humbuckers ever made. You will not believe just how sweet the tones out of this guitar are.
