Traditional to the core. Modern by feel. The Gibson G-45 Standard brings you the stunning partnership of modern features and traditional lutherie. Gibson 2019 is here. It's time to explore an idyllic combo of incredible performance capabilities, and a superior tone with a traditional aesthetic, and superb value.
2019 sees the launch of a whole new range of Gibson acoustics. The Gibson G-45 (G for Generation) is aimed at the increasingly popular acoustic market and specifically the younger market who may not have Gibson Hummingbird or J-45 independent income. The basic components are similar if not the same in parts but incorporate the same ingredients that have made the more expensive brethren so popular.
The basic construction of the G-45 is a non-scalloped X brace for the internal and body mounting, providing solid support and longevity proven by similar models. The Compound Dovetail Joint can be found on all high-end Gibson acoustics and provides great sustain and powerful resonance. The bridge pins and nut are made from Tusq giving the G-45 consistent material where the strings encounter the guitar.
The G-45 boasts the classic Sitka Spruce top as is with most of the higher end Gibson acoustics, this helps elevate the treble tones so melodic leads and fingerpicking can cut through. The back and sides are Walnut and are darker, richer and an altogether mellower timbre to the traditional Mahogany. Although they share some characteristics, the Walnut back and sides will evolve with the player, the lower register will start to shine through creating a well-balanced acoustic that changes and becomes unique to the player.
The Gibson G-45 is fitted with the Fishman Sonitone electronics system, the Fishman Sonitone is a discrete passive system that lightly amplifies the already confident acoustic. It has kept the aesthetic of the exterior of the guitar clean by placing the simple volume and tone controls within the sound-hole of the guitar.
Gibson has a long heritage of producing immensely playable acoustics where the focus is on providing sonic inspiration for songwriters. They have combined their decades of knowledge working with their extensive acoustic line to produce a more income and environmentally conscious line of high-end acoustics, suitable for today’s acoustic market. The Richlite fingerboard and bridge are a step in the right direction towards a more sustainable approach to guitar building. The construction is to the same rigorous standards and includes Mini Grover machine heads for precise and stable tuning. The G-45 is a well-balanced and versatile guitar aimed at both pickers and strummers but its focus remains in the song-writers realm.
